Blepharoplasty in Madrid

Blepharoplasty in Madrid: eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the look by removing excess skin, bags and signs of tiredness.

Blepharoplasty corrects excess skin of the upper eyelid that weighs on the gaze or restricts the visual field, lower eyelid bags, sunken under-eye hollows and the heaviness of droopy eyelids. It can be performed for aesthetic or functional reasons when eyelid drooping affects vision.

The price of blepharoplasty in Madrid depends on whether the upper, lower or both eyelids are operated on, and on whether it is combined with other procedures such as a brow lift or tear-trough filler. In the first consultation with Dr Barreno de Castro, the periorbicular anatomy is assessed, the most appropriate technique is decided and a detailed written quote is provided.

How blepharoplasty works

Blepharoplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, although general anaesthesia may be used when combined with other procedures. It lasts approximately one to two hours depending on the areas treated. The patient returns home the same day.

During the first seven to ten days, swelling and small bruises appear that improve progressively with local cold compresses. Stitches are removed around five to seven days. Returning to social activities is usually around two weeks, when oedema and visible signs have subsided sufficiently.

The final result of blepharoplasty appears between three and six months, when the scars — located in the natural fold of the upper eyelid and along the lash line of the lower lid — become virtually invisible. It is one of the facial procedures with the most discreet scarring.

FAQ about blepharoplasty

How much does blepharoplasty cost in Madrid?

The price of blepharoplasty depends on whether the upper, lower or both eyelids are operated on, and on whether it is combined with other procedures. In the first consultation each case is assessed and a personalised written quote is provided.

How long is the recovery from blepharoplasty?

Stitches are removed at 5-7 days. Returning to social activities happens around two weeks, when visible swelling has subsided. The final result is visible between 3 and 6 months.

Is blepharoplasty painful?

Blepharoplasty is performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, or general anaesthesia depending on the case, so nothing is felt during. The post-operative period is managed with oral analgesia; most patients describe mild discomfort, not pain.

Does blepharoplasty leave visible scars?

Upper blepharoplasty scars are hidden in the natural fold of the eyelid. Lower lid scars run along the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach, with no visible scar). In both cases they become virtually imperceptible over time.

Is blepharoplasty covered by the public health system?

Functional blepharoplasty (when a droopy upper eyelid reduces the visual field) may be covered by the public system if a measurable visual impairment is demonstrated. Aesthetic blepharoplasty is not covered. In the private consultation both approaches are discussed.
