Otoplasty in Madrid
Otoplasty in Madrid: ear surgery that corrects protruding ears and restores facial proportion, with a natural, permanent result.
Otoplasty reshapes the ear cartilage to bring the ear closer to the head and give it a more harmonious shape. It corrects protruding ears (bat ears), asymmetry between the ears, overly large ears and deformities of the cartilage fold. It can be performed on children from around six years old and on adults.
The price of otoplasty in Madrid depends on whether one or both ears are operated on, the technique and the type of anaesthesia. In your first consultation with Dr. Barreno de Castro, a maxillofacial surgeon, your ears are assessed, the most suitable technique is explained and you receive a written quote.
How otoplasty works
Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure that takes one to two hours. Adults are treated under local anaesthesia, with or without sedation; children under general anaesthesia. The incision is made behind the ear, so the scar is hidden in the natural fold.
After surgery a bandage is worn for the first few days, followed by an elastic headband at night for several weeks to protect the result. Discomfort is mild and managed with pain relief; normal life resumes within a few days.
The result of otoplasty is visible as soon as the bandage comes off and fully settles in two or three months, once the swelling has gone down. It is a permanent change.
FAQ about otoplasty
How much does otoplasty cost in Madrid?
The price depends on whether one or both ears are treated, the technique and the type of anaesthesia. In your first consultation you receive a closed written quote.
What is recovery from otoplasty like?
A bandage is worn for the first few days and an elastic headband at night for several weeks. Discomfort is mild and most patients return to normal life within a few days.
Does otoplasty leave a scar?
The scar is behind the ear, hidden in the natural fold between the ear and the head, so it is not visible.
From what age can otoplasty be performed?
From around six years old, when the ear has almost reached its adult size. There is no upper age limit: it is also frequently performed on adults.
Is the result of otoplasty permanent?
Yes. The reshaped cartilage keeps its new form, so the correction of protruding ears is permanent.
